Description

Meet the 2027 Polaris 850 Switchback® XC 146 1.6—a crossover built for riders who want one sled that can play nice on the trail and still get mischievous when the snow gets deeper. Finished in , it has that just-right look: sharp, purposeful, and ready to wear a little spray of powder like a badge of honor. (And if you’re the type who likes options, this model also comes in Gloss Black or INDY® Red / White Lightning / Gloss Black.)

At the heart of it is the Patriot™ 840cc liquid-cooled, 2-cylinder, 2-stroke engine—fuel-injected, reed-valve fed, and eager to snap to attention the moment your thumb says “go.” It runs on regular fuel and uses gas / oil injection, so you get that classic 2-stroke attitude with the convenience modern riders expect. Fire it up with the electric start, or go old-school with the pull start—either way, the sled’s ready when you are.

Power delivery is handled through a CVT transmission with belt drive, teamed with a P-85 / TEAM LWT clutch setup. Translation: it’s built to keep the engine in the sweet spot while you focus on the ride. And when the trail tightens up or you need to reset your line, reverse is there to save the day—because wrestling a sled around by boot power is only fun the first time.

The Switchback XC’s personality really shows in its chassis and suspension. The MATRYX aluminum frame keeps things light and responsive, while the independent A-arm front suspension and MATRYX front end bring a planted, confidence-forward feel. Up front you’ve got 9.5 inches of travel, and out back the IGX rear suspension offers 16 inches of travel with two rear shocks, giving you room to attack chatter, dips, and surprise “who put that there?” bumps without getting bounced off your plan.

Dialing in the ride is where the fun gets personal. With Fox® QS3 adjustable gas shocks with remote reservoirs at the front, rear, and center (all coil-over), you can tune your feel for the day—crisp and sporty for a trail rip, or more compliant when conditions get rough. It’s the kind of adjustability that makes you want to take the long way back just because you can.

Underneath, the Cobra Track is the bridge between trail control and off-trail capability: a 146-inch track length, 15-inch width, and 1.6-inch lugs that bite when you ask for forward drive, yet stay composed when you’re carving a clean line. Pair that with Pro-Steer™ composite skis and carbide skags, and you’ve got steering that feels deliberate—point it where you want, and it listens.

Comfort and control are baked in, too. The mid-height tinted windshield helps take the edge off wind on longer runs, while heated, adjustable driver grips keep your hands happier when temperatures drop. You’ve got a clean, rider-focused cockpit with LED lighting, plus practical warnings and readouts like a fuel gauge and a temperature warning light—the little things that keep the ride going smoothly.

From its one-piece vinyl seat to skid-resistant details like the skid-resistant floor and protection-minded touches like a belt guard, hand guards, snow guard, and tunnel braces, this Switchback® XC is built for miles, mischief, and everything in between. In , it looks as ready as it rides—like it was made to chase horizons, carve corners, and turn every winter weekend into a story worth telling.
